Rooting the Transition

Strategies to Strengthen Community Capacity & Foster Innovative Leadership

April 14, 2015 at 12:00pm - April 16, 2015
Marriot Meadowview Resort Hotel

This annual meeting is a hub for learning and analysis, where members build trust and relationships, expand their connections, align their development approaches, and develop a focused course of action that moves the Network toward its goals.

Who Should Attend?

The Gathering is open to grantmakers, bankers, and federal agency representatives that invest in the economic transition of Central Appalachia. The Network’s dues paying members receive a 40% discount on the gathering registration fee. If you are a non-dues-paying member, we encourage you to attend to:

  1. Better understand how the Network can help further your mission
  2. Strengthen your connections to other grantmakers
  3. Deepen your learning and analysis around promising development strategies
  4. Connect you to innovative initiatives within our working groups.

Local & Regional Development Practitioners:

The Steering Committee invites a selected group of nonprofit and economic development practitioners to attend the events on Tuesday, April 14 and Wednesday, April 15. We believe that this shared learning between grantmakers and practitioners leads to a more robust analysis of the opportunities, challenges, and innovative approaches to advance Appalachia’s economic transition. The agenda for Thursday, April 16 is reserved solely for grantmakers to engage in working groups and strengthen our organizational structure and processes.

Gathering Fees

The Network charges a $300 registration fee for Grantmakers who are not dues-paying members of the Network. Dues-paying members of the Network may choose the member ticket option to receive a 40% discount. The Gathering registration fee is waived for our guest practitioners as we actively seek to learn from them in order to develop a more robust analysis of the opportunities, challenges, and innovative approaches to advance Appalachia’s economic transition. All participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.

Trial Membership

Our trial membership ranges from $250-500. First-time members of the Network may choose a contribution within this range. Please add one trial membership to receive the 40% member discount on your Gathering registration ticket(s). Please note that one trial membership applies your discount to all Gathering tickets purchased for your organization’s participating board and staff.

Hotel Information

Discounted rooms for Gathering attendees are reserved at the Marriott Meadowview Resort Hotel Kingsport for $129 per night. The last day to take advantage of this discount is March 24th. Carbon Offset Fee

The Appalachia Funders Network is dedicated to investing in the long term health and resilience of Appalachia. As a result, the Network is collaborating with the Appalachian Carbon Partnership (ACP). The ACP, a project of the Mountain Association for Community Economic Development (MACED), is a powerful model for promoting the practice of sustainable forestry management on private, non-industrial forestland. This program is the first in Central Appalachia to compensate forest landowners for the carbon sequestered by their sustainably managed forests, linking the global issue of climate change directly to local economic development in Central Appalachia.
