Food Systems, Equity, and Central Appalachia

On November 30th, AFN's Food & Agricultural Systems Group invited all members to join them for a presentation and conversation around the history of food systems in Central Appalachia led by Dr. Theresa Moran. After an overview of the food system in north central Appalachia, we considered this history through a lens of equity and against the backdrop of the centuries of extractive industries in the region.

Theresa Moran, PhD, holds the title of Adjunct Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology at Ohio University. She established the interdisciplinary Food Studies program there in 2013, leading the university-wide program until 2020. Moran’s research interests focus on the sustainability implications of food choices. She also works on agricultural entrepreneurship and institutional procurement as a driver of regional economic development.

If you were unable to attend, you can view the recorded session below and access the materials here.
