Food & Agricultural Systems Group Creates Investment Road Map to Advancing a Regional Approach for a Resilient Appalachia

A few years ago, the Food & Agriculture Systems Group authored an Investment Road Map to Advancing a Regional Approach for a Resilient Appalachia and compiled a series of case studies of regional programs that are carrying out that work. This work is so timely in our current climate, so AFN wanted to share it more broadly with some added insight.

Long time AFN and Food & Ag Group member, Marlo Long of Truist shared, “AFN has been a valuable learning and networking organization. The Road Map developed by the Food & Ag Group helped shape a 3-year statewide initiative investment strategy by Truist’s CRA Department to support access to farmland, beginner farmer incubation and training, aggregation and distribution of locally produced food, access to healthy food, support for farmer’s markets, rural grocer’s, food processing and commercial kitchens. The connection between funders and practitioners in the field helped identify investable opportunities to support the broader food and agriculture ecosystem in central Appalachia.”
