AFN Partners with Invest Appalachia to Host “Climate resilience in Appalachia: Opportunities for philanthropy” Webinar

On Thursday, September 7th from 12:00pm-1:00pm ET, AFN partnered with AFN member, Invest Appalachia, as well as representatives from the North Caroline Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS) for a conversation around the climate crisis in Appalachia and the role philanthropy can play. If you were unable to attend, you can view the recorded session below.

Invest Appalachia recently released a first-of-its-kind report focusing on the realities Appalachian communities face due to climate change. It's not just a must-read, it's a clarion call for planning and action. You can access the report here.

Following the release of this report, and a series of member-only webinars on climate resiliency, migration, and it’s impact on art, culture, and place-making, the Appalachia Funders Network was thrilled to open the conversation to the general public. We were joined by funders, practitioners, government officials, and others for a discussion about the particular challenges Appalachia faces due to shifts in the climate and our region's unique role in finding solutions.

Speakers included:

  • Andrew Crosson, Chief Executive Officer, Invest Appalachia

  • Baylen Campbell, Director of Community Impact, Invest Appalachia

  • Jenny Dissen, Engagement and Partnerships Lead, NCICS

  • Nicholas Shanahan, Engagement and Partnerships Specialist, NCICS

  • Ryan Eller, Interim Executive Director, AFN

AFN greatly appreciates the practitioners in our region and values the important work they do. The Network strives to create a safe environment for funders, practitioners, and government officials to learn, grow, and collaborate together. In pursuit of this, all AFN events have a strict non-solicitation policy.
